DAY 1: SEMERA TO ERTA ALE VOLCANO

Danakil Drive & Sunset Hike to Erta Ale Lava Lake
Board Toyota Landcruisers in Semera around 9:00 AM and drive into the Danakil Depression.Travel past asphalted roads into rougher terrain near Afdera Town, navigating solidified lava, rock, and sand fields.Stop for lunch before reaching Erta Ale base camp at Dodom (~7-hour total drive).Begin a 1.5-hour sunset hike up to the crater rim of Erta Ale, reaching the active lava lake around 7:00 PM.Descend back to campsite for dinner.

Volcano Sunrise, Salt Pans & Lake Asale
Early morning hike to the crater rim before sunrise for a final view of the lava lake.Begin descent around 6:30 AM, arriving back at base camp by 8:00 AM for breakfast.Embark on a 3-hour drive across sweeping salt pans to the hamlet of Hamed Ela (population ~600).Visit Hamed Ela village to learn about the Afar people and witness traditional salt mining and camel caravans.Swim in natural salt pools at Lake Asale and watch the sunset over the salt flats before returning to Hamed Ela for dinner at 7:30 PM.
